The Texas Institute for Orchestra Studies uses Google Forms to process applications. Please read this page before proceeding. A link to the application is provided at the bottom of this page. Thank you.
Admission to the Texas Institute for Orchestra Studies is by individual application and competitive video audition only. These orchestra positions are currently open:

Violas
Cellos
Basses
Flutes and Piccolo
Oboes and English Horn
Clarinets
Bassoons and Contra Bassoon
Horn
Trumpet
Trombone
Tuba
Percussion
Timpani
Harp
Piano
There is no fee to apply.
A completed application, uploaded audition videos must be received by TXIOS for you to be considered as a candidate for an Institute Fellowship position.
2023 Tuition
For the two-week Institute, tuition is $449.00. A deposit of $225.00 is due within 14 days of acceptance. Tuition is reduced to $399.00 for the second participant in a family.
For for any one (1) week, tuition is $249.00. Tuition payment of $125.00 is due within 14 days of acceptance. Tuition is reduced to $199.00 for a second participant in a family.

The weeks are
Monday, June 19 - Friday, June 23 with a 6:00 p.m. performance 6/23;
Monday, June 26 - Friday, June 30 with a 6:00 p.m. performance 6/30.
Enrollment for less than an entire week is not permitted.
TUITION PAYMENT OPTIONS: Institute Orchestra positions are limited, especially for winds, brass, percussion and keyboard.
Full payment of tuition may be remitted by you upon acceptance to hold a TXIOS position. OR
You may make a deposit, see above. Tuition balance must be paid in full within 14 (fourteen) calendar days of your initial deposit.
Please note that the deposit is not refundable. If you must withdraw, refund of the remainder of tuition paid is subject to conditions specified under General Information and Policies.
THE APPLICATION PERIOD: Applications for the 2023 Institute will be accepted beginning 12:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 1, 2023, and ending after 11:59 p.m., Sunday, May 21, 2023. Because enrollment in certain sections of the TXIOS Orchestra is limited, applications will be evaluated as they are received and special consideration will be given to early applications. Some late applications, however, may be considered at the Institute’s option.
Your application may be revised or completed and saved by you in stages. The completion of an application requires the upload of audition videos.
In addition to providing basic information regarding your musical experience and contact information, the application will provide simple instructions and procedure for recording and uploading an audition videos.
The audition videos will include:
A performance required orchestral excerpts.
The excerpt may be downloaded and printed by you.
It is not necessary that you apply to view the required excerpt.
The excerpts are intended to be challenging for most applicants and are taken from repertoire planned for this summer. Please do your best so we may fairly evaluate your ability for acceptance and seating purposes. If, however, you feel that the excerpts are too difficult, please email us at info@txios.org and we will be happy to provide alternate selections.
Performance of a prepared solo of your choosing
This may be an excerpt of a longer work and the excerpted section may be a compilation of several clips.
The solo video should be recent, not exceeding two (2) minutes in length, and, if possible, it should NOT be accompanied by piano or other instruments. Please do not attempt to upload a performance of more than two minutes’ duration.
In the application, you may express your desire to be considered for a concerto reading session or public performance. If selected, the final nature of this concerto opportunity is at the discretion of the Institute’s artistic leadership in consultation with you.
